Meow Monday: The Lorax in the Small Town

Today is Monday and here in the Small Town, Mondays are dedicated to Oreo with Meow Monday.

This Monday, we are doing things a little differently. The Meow Monday photos are typically not digitally altered (occasionally the background, but never Oreo). We pride ourselves on regularly torturing Oreo taking the time to dress Oreo to the nines and publishing honest photos of him.  What fun would there be in making him do something crazy digitally if we can actually make him do it in real life.

The reason this week is going to be different is because of an issue that has arisen.  I am sure you have heard of The Lorax.  Oreo is a huge fan of the Lorax.

Lorax mustache was digitally added.  No Loraxes were harmed in the making of this photo.

Oreo is offended by the merchandizing that is being tied to The Lorax.  I am sure you know that kids’ movies always have a ton of merchandizing (great, another way to make money.  I wonder if I could merchandize Oreo somehow).

If you know the story of The Lorax, you know that it is pro-environmental and anti-consumerism.  The environment should not be exploited for profit.  Which means, The Lorax should probably not be out there selling anything that has the money to buy his image (according to the Associated Press, The Lorax has 70 marketing partners).

To Oreo, the most offensive marketing partnership is with a car manufacturer to promote an SUV.  While everyone in the Small Town drives SUVs (including Small Town Daddy, Oreo is embarrassed to admit), no one can claim that they are environmentally friendly.

I have made up the following rhyme, based on the original Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (no offense meant to Dr. Seuss).

I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees
Except when I’m out hawking SUVs.

So what are your thoughts?  Are you offended by all of the marketing partnerships the Lorax has been entered into or do you think it’s fine and Oreo is making a big deal about nothing.

Here’s what Oreo thinks…

Everyone but Oreo did see the movie and did enjoy the message portrayed in the movie.  The girls did wonder how it related to SUVs but I figure that’s up to the Lorax to explain.
