Daylight Saving Time at the Dance

datePosted on 08:52, October 27th, 2009 by Small Town Mommy

Hello and Happy Tuesday!  It’s time for Random Tuesday Thoughts.  If you aren’t familiar with Random Tuesday Thoughts, it is the one day a week where I share the good, the bad and the ugly that I have been thinking about.  RTT was started by Keely the UnMom.  I guess that makes this Canadian, eh?

When I mentioned the ladybugs that invaded my house, a couple of people suggested we should have left them alone instead of vacuuming them.  They mentioned the fact that ladybugs are lucky.  My feeling is that all things cease being lucky once there are hundreds of them.  So, bite me.

This coming Sunday is my favorite day of the year.  No, I don’t have a strange attraction to El Dia de los Muertos, I just can’t wait to turn the clocks back an hour.  While I know I wont actually get to sleep an extra hour, I am hoping that it will feel like I am.

So, what about those pilots who missed the Minneapolis airport.  Since they were using their laptops, does that mean that they were on Facebook when they should have been flying the plane.  I guess that’s why so many corporations block their employees from Facebook.

Libby has her first school social this week and her first dance next weekend.  Am I just overprotective (OK, I am overprotective) or does 5th grade seem really early to start this type of thing.  I don’t want to tell her she can’t go, but if she is doing this now, what is she going to do for thrills in high school?  I have decided to volunteer at both events.  If I have to volunteer around town to spy on my children, so be it.  Somehow, in my zeal to attend the social, I ended up on the committee to organize it.  I had no idea until I received an email thanking me for volunteering.  Wait a second, I don’t remember volunteering.  I just wanted to be there to spy on my kid offer any assistance I could.

Well, that’s it for the random.  Stop by to visit Keely, the UnMom and hear all about what’s happening in the frozen north.

Any creature that crawls/flies into my home is fair game or the vac. I used to work midnights and hated when we would turn the clocks back. It meant an extra hour of work when I could barely stay awake as it was. Have fun with organizing that school function :)

    Hi,

I always thought I am the only one who sees the brilliance in the 1 extra hour, even it is once a year and just like you I never really use it. But I defiantly hate when the clock is moving the other way because somehow this always leave an impact on me.

So this is actually a loose-loose situation anyway. But I still love it :)

    Great post,
    Laughed along :)

Do you suppose the kids know we are spying or do they consider it cool that mom is helping out??????

Hmm I was just thinking something similar yesterday. DJ had a playdate with a fellow 4th grader from church, who happens to go to public school. While DJ wanted to play outside, and video games, his friend wanted to sit on the computer on his Facebook page. Umm isn’t that a bit rude number one, and number two why would a nine year old need a Facebook page?

AHAHAHAHA! On your ladybug retaliation – you’re right, when there are hundreds of them, luck has no presence, really. ;)

I LOVE it when the clocks change back an hour. It’s my favorite time, too. I think mentally I feel more rested having that extra hour – which means I feel robbed when the clocks head the other direction in the Spring. :)

Does make you wonder about those pilots, doesn’t it?

I think I’d be volunteering, too… 5th grade does seem ‘young’ for a dance – why must me make them ‘grow up’ so quickly? They seem to do it fast enough on their own… :)

    Happy RTT! :)

the clock changing just confuses me a lot!!! and what’s the deal with those pilots?!? I’ve heard it somewhere else but now that it seems like it’s a big deal I’ll have to do my searches on the web..

    Happy Tuesday!

*my random thoughts are up too:)

I love daylight savings time in the fall too. Most of our clocks are on phones or computers so we don’t even have to do all the clock resetting. It all just does itself.

I think the pilots were sleeping. But, then I hadn’t heard anything about laptops so who knows.

Good luck with your daughter’s stuff this weekend.

    Happy Random Tuesday!

I think I would have to agree that fifth grade seems awful early. Shouldn’t they still be grossed out by even holding hands?

  9. Kat on October 27th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

I bet they were playing Farmville

I never feel right during daylight savings time. My whole internal clock is off. I am soooooo ready for standard time to return. Maybe the whole global warming thing is revenge for daylight savings….

Who volunteers just to be nice? It’s totally about the spying!

  12. Toni on October 27th, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Fifth grade? Yup, I would volunteer too. That seems a bit early for that kind of stuff. Oh well, have fun!

    Happy Tuesday!

We have those biting lady bugs here too. There are so many of them!

    Have a great RTT!

That’s kinda the same thing as volunteering. I’m don’t think we had dances in the fifth grade. We started that stuff in jr high.

I agree: 100+ ladybugs is the opposite of lucky. One ladybug, alighting on my arm, is a beautiful reminder that not all bugs are horrifying. 100 ladybugs invading my house? That’s proof that all bugs are horrifying.

  16. ann on October 27th, 2009 at 4:59 pm

I’m with you on the ladybug thing. I also agree that they seem to be starting kids out pretty early with the dance thing. I was jr, high before I ever went to a dance.

  17. Julie@Momspective on October 27th, 2009 at 5:23 pm

Everyone, everywhere is on Facebook. I’m actually on there now. I’ll be sure to avoid using it whilst flying a plane ;)

  18. The Mind of a Mom on October 27th, 2009 at 6:14 pm

They were on facebook?? Well that answers everything with the ever growing Farmville I can now see why they overshot the airport! LoL

  19. Allison Berman on October 27th, 2009 at 9:28 pm

I love random Tuesday’s! A bug is a bug is a bug. Outside-try to peacefully co-exist. Inside the house-human domain. Stomp, squish, vacuum, whatever it takes.
Please make sure you are dressed appropriately for Libby’s school dance so you do not embarrass her. Leather pants and a fluorescent tube top with zebra striped high heels should be perfect.
Hey-I was playing vampire wars with those pilots. They are my clanmates! Now they are going to lose their company provided laptops and everything! I guess it is all good as long as they continue to vote and send shards, obols and chupracabra teeth!
    LOL ;-) !

  20. Your Daily Cute on October 27th, 2009 at 9:47 pm

Only thing I don’t like about the time change is that it’s dark already when I get out of work. I feel like the whole day came and went while I was busy (busy?) in the office. Other than that, bring it on!

And, yes, I think 5th grade is early. I don’t remember dances until high school I don’t think… Things are different now though. Funny how I used to tell my parents that, and now I’m starting to see it too.

  21. Heather@TheWifeyDiaries on October 27th, 2009 at 10:13 pm

I completely agree with spying on your children all over town. lol.

And I don’t care what they say… It’s my favorite time of year too and I totally get an extra hour to sleep!

  22. Mrsbear on October 28th, 2009 at 1:42 pm

There is nothing cute about hundreds of insects. Yuck.

I find Daylight Savings overrated. They tell me I’m getting an extra hour of sleep, except my kids are waking up at the same time. 7 to them is now 6 to me. How is that supposed to make me feel better. ;)

  23. patois on October 29th, 2009 at 12:57 pm

Oh, I know I say ladybugs are lucky, but not when they’re a curse sent down from God (as obviously 100 of them would qualify).
