Six Year Old Social Obligations and Are You Really, Really Dumb?Hey there, it’s Tuesday and time for Random Tuesday Thoughts. After today, there is only one more Tuesday until the Small Town Ladies return to school. Not that I am counting or anything. I was watching the news today and they were talking about the school districts that have kids going back to school today. I knew we picked the wrong town when we moved here. I know you are all waiting with baited breath for an update on my workout efforts. This week, I actually missed 2 days (that’s right, I am a slug). We took the in-laws away and I needed 2 days to recover. I know, it sounds like I needed to recover from so much exposure to the in-laws, but actually I just didn’t get enough sleep. Obviously, I am getting way too old. Besides missing 2 days, Sven and I have been having a grand old time. Although he still has his unnatural affection for lunges (people seem to agree with me that lunges are bad). I am considering getting Sven into therapy. Does anyone know a good virtual therapist? This week is the week I allow Joanna to repay all of her social obligations (who knew a 1st grader could have so many social commitments). Since I work from the house, I don’t let her have friends over very often (I know, I am an awful mother), but she gets invited out a lot. That means I have to eventually invite those children over here to avoid her becoming a social pariah. This is the week, so we will have 6 year olds under foot every day. Have I mentioned how much I want school to start? I was watching the news about a controversial new public service announcement pointing out that you shouldn’t text when you are driving. For those of you who are apparently really, really dumb, taking your eyes off the road when you are driving is always bad. It is even worse when you take your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel. Now that I have insulted a large portion of the country, I think I will go see who else I can offend. Don’t forget to visit Keely, who I am sure would never call you really, really dumb. |
Idk know about a good virtual therapist for Sven, but if you find one, let me know. Goddess knows I could use some therapy and I hate leaving my house!!
I hate having kids over too, I can barely handle my own, I don’t need other kids over too! But, I break down and let one over every so often. Although since we don’t have tv and no expensive gaming/entertianment systems most kids don’t want to come here. They want mine to come over to their houses and use their entertainment systems that cost thousands of dollars. lol
My daughter thinks she should be able to txt and drive cuz she txts so much she can do it with one hand without looking at the phone, but I still don’t think it’s a good idea.
Have a great Random Tuesday!

I know what you mean with the recovery thing….
It’s surprising how many people actually text and drive too.
Have a great Tuesday!

You could move here, the kids have been in public school for two weeks already. It too baffles me how people get angry when the government wants to pass laws to protect those of us who have common sense enough not to text and drive, from those who do not. Big brother, and all that blah blah blah. If they don’t want big brother telling them what to do, and not do, then think before you do really dumb things. Not you of course, If find you to be infinitely wise LOL.
Even with taking 2 days off, you’re amazing! Good luck iwth the virtual therapist. Sounds like a new Wii game. I also hate having kids over. I just don’t like the extra stress. They’ll be back in school in no time.
Really people shouldn’t have to be told that texting and driving is dangerous. Unfortunately they do. Worse still a teenager with a car full of teenagers all texting and driving. Scary.
My kids just went back yesterday, well most of them anyway. And lemme tell ya, it’s a WORLD of difference! Good luck with the extra six years olds, personally I might’ve volunteered for the social pariah label.
Don’t even get me started on texting and driving. That people actually have to be TOLD not too and they are now passing LAWS about something so basic completely stuns me.
Maybe Sven was a poor fencer in a past life and he is trying to make up for it now….
You shouldn’t text and drive? That’s news to me!! Just kidding. But hey like the saying goes sometimes common sense ain’t common.
I have a friend who reads while she drives. Yes, she props a book up on the steering wheel and reads. I guess I should be thankful she keeps her hands on the wheel . . . ?
What about reading while stopped at a light? How irresponsible is that?
My mum gets so frustrated with people on their phones whilst driving that she shouts at them through her (closed) car window…I try and remind her that they can’t hear her but it doesn’t seem to matter!
I have to admit I’m doing a little happy dance since my kids go back to school tomorrow.
We have a very high fine for using cell phones here, but I still see people talking on their phones and texting while driving. It’s crazy.
My doctor uses a phone jammer where no cell phones will operate in his office, maybe they’ll come up with an automatic one that can kick in while cars are moving.
Out here in Los Angeles (where it is a moving violation with a whopping fee), people still talk on the phone and text. I think I should be able to ram them with my car and collect a huge amount of money from them or their insurance company!! If you ever see a woman on the news being hauled off the freeway in handcuffs by ten cops screaming “But she was texting and talking while driving!!!”, it is a slow news day and that woman would be me. Since I am unemployed (or per diem-when they happen to need me) I think tomorrow I may get out of my pajamas and walk the dogs. Or stay in my pajamas and play Vampire Wars again like I did today. Maybe I do need Sven. Let me know when he gets the hot motivation language chip!
My son is in year-round school so he’s been back in for 7 weeks already. Although, in two weeks he will have a 3 week vacation. Nine weeks in, three weeks off. It kind of works out nice – none of that pesky three-month summer break!
A virtual therapist would be a great find. Let me know if you have any luck.
I don’t understand the outrage about that ad. We expose teenagers to horror movies and TV shows that are violent and gruesome but take offense to an ad meant to save lives. Huh.
Only one more Tuesday! You can do it.
We have another week too. We start the day after the long weekend. I’m counting too. Oh, and I’m pretending I don’t know about returning playdates. I’m just picking up all the little kids and taking them to one big movie and popcorn night OUT OF MY HOUSE.
I watched that British PSA you are talking about. It is graphic, but I think every teenager in the world should have to watch it. I read where the guy made the PSA after one of his friends was killed in Florida by a driver who was texting.
I am ready for all the neighborhood demon spawn to go back to school. UI have had enough of the lack of parental supervision and will be glad to see them confined somewhere, hell anywhere, for the day, as long as they are not teasing my dogs and throwing rocks at my hoouse from the passing RR tracks.
I got the AE active “game” too and the lunges are killing me. I use the other trainer not Sven but am considering changing since whatever her name is doesn’t accept my excuses for why I am doing the exercise wrong. She obviously doesn’t have a dog who walks in front of the Wii remote every time I am supposed to move.
I was plugging through EA active. for some reason I keep making it halfway and then stopping for this or that or the other. I hate those stupid hold squat thingies!
You did great for only taking 2 days off…I took this whole week off!
I’m not a big fan of having kids over here, either – we need a house with a play room so it’s not the entire first and second floor scattered with toys like it is now. Add more kids to the mix and it’s an even bigger (stressful) mess.
I have trouble texting when I’m standing still, I can’t imagine trying to do so while driving.
I saw that PSA. Dang. It’s got to be effective. I’m afraid to text now even when I’m not in a car.
