You Too Can Cook

datePosted on 12:44, July 15th, 2009 by Small Town Mommy

Yesterday, I promised a giveaway, so here it is.  I am giving away The Good Home Cookbook.

Let me tell you a little about it.  I have mentioned in the past that I love to cook.  What I didn’t reveal is that I also love to read cookbooks.  I recently read The Good Home Cookbook and let me tell you, it kept me entertained for hours (no, not all in one stretch, I have kids, you know).  It includes recipes for practically anything you can imagine.  It is a great cookbook for someone who gets nervous in the kitchen (you know who you are).  The instructions are very simple and it even includes recipes for things like chocolate milkshakes, juicy grilled burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches.

The other day, I made the book’s chocolate chip cookie recipe for our new neighbors — Small Town, remember?  Yes, we bake cookies to welcome our new neighbors (then we send Hamlet over to pee in their yard).  The cookies were really good (in fact, I was sorry that I had to send a bunch of them down the street).

The book has a great concept.  It has down home recipes from all over the country.  It brings together diverse recipes like Burgoo (oatmeal with fruit) and egg creams (seltzer with chocolate milk).  The recipes were tested in home kitchens around the country (they forgot to ask me but I am sure that was an oversight).

So, onto the giveaway.  The book is huge so shipping is going to cost me a fortune.  Thus, I have to limit entry to US mailing addresses only (sorry Canadians, you know I love you.  I just can’t afford you).  Because this is such a cool giveaway, you have the chance to receive multiple entries.

First entry: Leave me a comment below.  Tell me what is your favorite food so I can check if it is in the cookbook (I bet it is).
Second entry (actually worth 5 entries): Write about the giveaway on your blog (if you have one).  Leave me a comment to let me know you have done it.
Third entry (actually worth 3 entries): Follow me on Twitter and tweet the giveaway to your Twitter followers (include @smalltownmommy so I can find your tweet).  Leave me a comment so I know to look for your tweet.

That’s it.  Now, enter, enter, enter.

My favorite food is grain. But I doubt goat grain is in your cookbook…the publicist on the other hand says her favorite food, especially when she doesn’t feel well, is chicken soup. Yum, she says.

Hmmm, now I am worried about all those chickens in my goat pen. Hmmmmm.

For favorite food can I write “just about everything?” If not I’ll choose my favorite food from today. That would be homemade waffles with fresh picked blackberries.

    Cool giveaway!

I just started following you, and will Tweet as soon as I finish this comment.

My favorite food? Right now I’m thinking macaroni and cheese. Yes. A nice, hot, cheesy, bacon-filled mac & cheese.

If you like this cookbook, you might also like The Comfort Food Cookbook. Don’t know who it’s by and I’m too lazy to check. It has a lot of, well, comfort food recipes that are easy and delicious.

I love Chinese Food, but many recipes for most dishes are either impossible to make or so bland that I could just buy some LaChoy.

This book looks great (I love cooking and cookbooks too) thanks for letting us know about it, contest or not.

My favorite food is mmmmm…food. I really will eat almost anything, as long as their are no internal organs involved. Pizza is kind of cliche, but really I could do pizza every day with a different topping. Also, I’m a sandwich fan. Any meal that’s portable and wrapped in a bread-stuff, cannot go wrong. ;)

I have 4 big boys and a hubby. They love everything and I try to make everything. I have to say the Choc. Chip cookies made my mouth water when I read about it. I do love to bake.

This sounds like a great cookbook for someone like me! I really need to improve with cooking, I don’t do much and want to change that!

  22. Michelle on July 16th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

What a fun giveaway. Sounds like the perfect book for me. I’m always struggling in the kitchen. My hubby cooks better then me. LOL!

Anne, Mrs C collects cookbooks. I do believe that the North American Cookbook museum is located in my house.
Strangely enough, Mrs C DOES NOT COOK.

How crazy is that? I do the cooking, and I never use a cookbook.
