The Mosquitoes are Plotting My DemiseYou know what today is and you know what that means. What? You don’t? That means you must be new here. Welcome! Pull up a chair and stay a while. Would you like some iced tea? How about a piece of leftover birthday cake? If you want to find out what today means, you can read about it here or here or here or just stay and enjoy the surprise. Please remain seated and keep hands and arms inside the cart at all times. Here we gooooooo! I took the ladies strawberry picking on Saturday. I love picking fruit and use it to make jam and many delicious baked goods. The girls, while they enjoy the jam and other delicious baked goods, don’t enjoy the picking too much. They start out great, but about 15 minutes into it, they start to get bored. Then the whining starts. “I’m hot, I’m tired, I’m thirsty.” I don’t know why I keep taking them, but I do. Probably because I don’t want to go all by myself. I feel bad about Michael Jackson, I really do, but please, please, please, stop talking about him on the news. Yes, we know… He is dead. He had kids. He had an estate. Is it really news that he might have had a will and it might be read someday? Move on already, people. Nothing to see here. Leave his poor kids alone with their grief already. The mosquitoes are driving me insane. I will admit, I am the mosquitoes’ favorite dish. My husband always jokes that when we have a party, he wants to set me away in a corner to keep the mosquitoes away from the guests. We had rain for what felt like a month and the mosquitoes are now going berserk. I am covered with bites and itching like crazy. Let me tell you, there is nothing as attractive as constant scratching. Look out supermodels, here I come. If anyone has any solutions to getting rid of mosquitoes or mosquito bites, please share below. I would love to hear them. Also, if you live in one of those places that don’t have mosquitoes, there is no need to rub it in. I am feeling badly enough already about the constant scratching. Last night, we had dinner with friends and we came home very late. Driving home was like an amusement park ride. I was trying to rush so the girls could get to bed. Wildlife kept jumping out in front of my car. First a deer. Then a raccoon. Then some small, furry brown thing that was really very cute (but I believe he eats gardens). I had to keep trying to avoid wild animals. Nothing like driving through the Small Town safari (no animals were harmed in the drive through the Small Town). That is it for this week’s Random Tuesday Thoughts. I hope you enjoyed it. If so, tell your friends. If not, keep it to yourself. Don’t forget to check out Keely, the Un-Mom, the queen of all things random.

Ugh, I hate mosquitoes. Unfortunately, they LOVE me and my daughters. Our bites swell up to be HUGE red welts that never go away. And of course, I am paranoid about West Nile. For some reason, Hubs never gets bit so he laughs at us. Darn mosquitoes.
We even have mosquitoes out here this year. First year since we moved out from NJ. Now of course these mosquitoes have NOTHIN’ on Jersey mosquitoes….
Heh heh…I remember those drives. Of course now it’s the deer, the elk and the moose. Hmmmm, the moose is rather large when it is in front of your car.
Yuk on the mosquitoes. I wish I had advice on how to keep them away. Just bug spray and calamine lotion for when they actually bite and leave you scratching.
The bites – lavender essential oil. Just dab a little on and it will be almost gone or all the way gone in the morning. I use it on my kids all the time and it works great.
To get rid of the mosquitos, I saw this stuff you can spray in your yard that is supposed to work up to 8 weeks at Walmart. I haven’t tried it yet.
Bats. They eat thousands in an hour. We have a maternal group of bats that do have their babies in the eave of our house every year (I know, I know). I hate that they’ve chosen our house, but at the same time, I enjoy the respite from the mosquitoes. Basically, mosquito season at our place starts a couple months later. I can always tell when they’ve left…I’m a magnet!
since i swell up like a sumo when i get a mosquito bite i get my boyfriend to dig his nail as hard as he can right into the bite in a cross shape.
sounds odd, but it does alleviate the itch.
probably cause there’s pain so you forget about itching.

And we haven’t even begun with the parading of MJ’s carcass around yet. I’m betting they’ll have him lying in a glass casket, lying in state for WEEKS to milk more money from the idiots who are hoarding his records and stuff. It will be like Evita Peron all over again–mark my words.
We don’t have very many mosquitos out here because our summers are so dry. But back home in the Midwest they were everywhere. My mom always uses Skin So Soft from Avon. It works wonders on repelling mosquitos.
I have been told and read that mosquitoes don’t like Avon’s original “Skin So Soft” lotion.
Your husband’s comment about you at a party made me LOL. I’m a BzzAgent (word-of-mouth advertising) and am currently reviewing the OFF Clip-on deally that works really well. Sounds like that would be right up your alley…
Oh I hate mosquitoes especially when they bite my children.
I agree with Michael. The poor family already has to deal with his passing, they shouldn’t have to deal with all this nonsense.
I will come and sit in the corner with you because I am just one walking banquet for them. Ohh and I will have cake
)
I made the mistake of sitting out on my porch with my laptop to write. Damn things are drawn to that screen like moths to a flame. So I set the bug zapper up nearby. Several Tiki Torches and Citronella candles too.
Helped for a while, but I think a Pterodactyl flew into the bug zapper!
I have not commented on any Michael Jackson posts, there is a reason for that. We have tons of mosquitos here, they just love the hot, humid air. They say if you plant marigolds, they hate the smell, and stay away. Dump out any standing water, so they cant lay eggs. The one that seems to work the best, is to get some frogs, toads, and lizards, something I regret to say we have an abundance of here, but they do like bugs a lot. My husband, and daughter, are like you the bugs love them. My son, and I must be too sweet LOL
I haven’t taken the Princess Nagger berry picking yet, but it will happen…as will the whining and complaining, I’m sure.
Mosquitoes LOVE me, too…the feeling is not mutual. The Cutter brand of mosquito spray seems to do the trick for me – mostly. There are still a few rogue mosquitoes that don’t seem to mind the smell.
They have ginormous mosquitoes here in Louisiana where we’re vacationing – I got bit moments after we arrived so had to walk around with a HUGE itchy welt on my arm for the first 2 days. Fun.
Happy RTT a day late!
Yuck, mosquitoes are awful…my dd is so allergic to them and they love her to pieces. Luckily our area isn’t too bad at the moment.
I love picking fruit too. Wish I could figure out how to make jam. That sounds yummy. I’m also tired of hearing about Michael Jackson. I feel bad, but it’s getting old already. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Hugs
Michelle
I have been contemplating taking Bronwen out strawberry picking…. but there is this little touch of fear…. Im tired, Im hungry, I dont want a strawberry, I want chippies, Im thirsty, I have to go to the toiley Mummah….
yeah. Maybe I will go by myself with an ipod!
(love the idea of lavender to stop the itchies of mozzies… little buggers see me as an all you can eat buffet)
Stop talking about Michael Jackson? PLEASE.
I used to live in the mosquito capital of the US (this is not a joke, it was recorded as Marengo, Iowa when I grew up there) so I can definitely relate! You’d think I’d have some good advice but all I learned from living there was to stay inside.
I hope you have a fun 4th of July weekend!
P.S. And thank you for the comment regarding my dad on his retirement!
Avon’s Skin-So-Soft is what we use. No, I’m not affiliated with Avon.
I do often wonder why some people seem more tasty to mosquitoes
I’m with you, enough of the Michael Jackson. I feel like the only person who doesn’t care. I see people on TV that didn’t even know him crying and carrying on. I just don’t get it. We haven’t had as much rain as you so our mosquitoes aren’t quite as bad. I’ve heard that Avon skin-so-soft works well. Last summer my sister-in-law heard listerine mouthwash worked and she was going around trying to spray everyone with it. It smelled horrible and it doesn’t work!
Guaranteed mosquito relief—crush bulbs of garlic and hang around your yard and deck. Also, start taking garlic oil and vitamin B-1 supplements. I used to get between 10-15 bites a day but after the garlic and B-1, I average about 1 or 2 a day–HUGE difference
