We Are Falling Apart

datePosted on 13:59, May 28th, 2009 by Small Town Mommy

The saga of the Small Town house falling apart continues.  If you have been following the saga, it started with my computer.  Sucker died and had to be replaced.  Then the heat went out again and again.  After that, the washing machine bought it.  I didn’t even bother to mention the ceiling fan that fell out of the ceiling in the middle of the night (frying all of the electricity on its circuit).

Now, it is the oven.  My oven isn’t even old.  We redid the kitchen 4 years ago and replaced all of the appliances.

I had the oven repair guy here on Tuesday and he couldn’t fix it.  That isn’t completely true, he could fix it, just not on Tuesday.  Apparently, they have to order every part the oven has, send out 2 guys and take the oven out of the wall to determine what is wrong with it.  Yes, it is as expensive as it sounds.  But, it is still less expensive than buying a new oven.  So here we wait, without an oven, for all of the pieces and parts to arrive.  While I am usually very fond of any excuse not to cook, I am getting a little tired of it.  We are going to be without an oven for 2 weeks.  There is only so much pizza one family can eat.  If anyone has any suggestions for oven-free meals, send them over.  I would love to try them.

On another note, I mentioned that Libby has been sick forever (at least it seems that way to me).  Turns out she has mono (infectious mononucleosis).  I took her into school for a couple of hours today and she is now napping.  I am sending her back tomorrow but may get a call from the nurse to come pick her up.  The doctor and school nurse say I have to introduce her back to activity slowly so she doesn’t relapse.

The bigger bummer is that she missed the infamous health video yesterday (the one with the dancing penises).  I will have to see if the nurse will show it to her in the office.  By the way, I just discovered that if you do a search for dancing penises on Google, you will get a link for male strippers.  If they have dancing penises, I want to see that.  Who’s in?

Ugh. When it rains, it pours, eh? I have discovered that the American dream of owning a home came with a much bigger price ticket then I anticipated. Anyway, if you have a range top, then you can cook all kinds of meals. Do you own a pressure cooker? or a slow cooker? The make great one pot meals. Plus you can make fried chicken or pork chops if you have a range top available. If not, make sandwiches and heat soup in the microwave. Buy some microwave vegetable bags. They are great for cooking fresh veggies in the microwave. And they really work. Good luck!

Yikes! Things aren’t sounding too good in the Small Town house. Not having an oven kinda sucks. We were without one over Thanksgiving! Now that was fun. Definitely don’t want Libby to relapse and it’s such a shame about the video. You just don’t get that opportunity every day.

Ahh, Mercury Retrograde. Ain’t it grand?

Yes, take Libby’s recovery slow. Been there, relapsed.

Count me in on the dancing penises video.

Good grief! I’m so sorry for all your problems, especially Libby missing the dancing penises. Is there no greater injustice?

I don’t cook. Please feel free to haul my oven away! Seven years old. Housekeeper dusts it. I want to go to school with Libby and see the dancing penises111

I’m in for the video, it’s got to be better than the one they showed in health class 30 years ago!

Good luck with getting everything fixed. As far as meals, most grocery stores have premade dinners like roasted chicken, and several things that can be served cold. Beats 2 weeks of pizza.

Sorry to hear about your appliances. I had mono in high school. I missed the first 2 months of school. It takes awhile to get back on your feet, but here’s wishing a speedy recovery.

Ohh Anne not another thing!! Sorry to hear about the oven, it’s like that new customer you get and their first order gets messed up and then the next and it seems like they are going to be “that one” customer that is just going to get it!! :o )
Ovenless meal that is yummy. You can purchase pre-cooked chicken from the store (the rotisserie one) and it makes a great meal then if there are any left overs the next night you can use the chicken, some veggies and put that into wraps, serve with some salad. And there is always the grill outdoors and fish is yummy on the grill!
I hope Smalltown girl gets well soon what a horrible thing to have it take so long to recover from. The girl had “the film” this year in grade 9 and it scared her!! You might want to thankful that she gets to skip it and you can tell her in a kinder way, so she doesn’t have bad dreams of pink bananas!! LoL

Wow I thought bad things happened in threes. I think you have had your fair share now. I must tell you I love my crockpot, and my toaster oven, in the summer, hardly ever use the oven.

I bet you’re wishing there was a way to pack up Murphy and send him and his Law on their way, don’t you? You poor thing! You’ve had a landslide of non-fun lately, haven’t you? I have a bazillion yummy crock pot recipes if you’re interested – I tend to avoid using the oven in the summertime because we don’t have central air and the kitchen gets the full effect of the afternoon sun…so using the oven in the summer is not such a wise idea… ;) Poor Libby – hope she’s feeling better soon, sucks being sick especially when you’re a kid! Count me in on the video… ;)

I detect a pattern here! Is this some kind of fetish? what’s next, bananas?

Wow! Sorry for all your probs. Try the crockpot. I had to use one for awhile when we had oven probs. Sorry your daughter has mono. I had it at 16 and was out of school for a month and a half.

Anyway maybe this will cheer you up – I have two awards for you on my blog @

I am very sorry about your breakdown hell.

I am sorry about Libby’s mono but at least you now know what you are dealing with…I hope she gets to feeling better very soon.

Does the stove part work? Or is the whole thing completely dead? Do you have a toaster over? Crock pot? Grill? Let me know..email me kaiminani@gmail.com I went without my kitchen for 6 months while the stupid contractor who said it would take 1 month redid my kitchen in NJ

Do the dancing penises strip while dancing? THAT would be interesting. Heh heh

  16. Lisa (Jonnysmommy) on May 29th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Oh no! I hope she feels better soon. You’ll have to get a grill and crockpot. For the crock pot you’ll have to make sure you’re not very hungry. Considering it takes 10 hours to make something in there.

As for the penises. . . I’m sure those strippers could make them dance. um…why did you Google it anyhow? I’m slightly disturbed. :-)

Oh good lord, I had mono. Keep your eye on her, something about mono + hormone changes of puberty can cause all sorts of chaos.

If she seems to be having problems with being REALLY down in the dumps (not just angsty, ya know?) it could be related. Mono seems to throw your serotonin levels off sometimes.

Hang in there, “When it rains, it pours” is a mantra here. It’s calm right now, shhhh.

I have to chuckle because every time (and I am not kidding)hubby goes out of town for business more than a week…. something goes wrong…propane leak, dishwasher broke, car battery dies,,,, you get the picture, lol!!!

I’m so sorry to hear all that! When it rains it truly floods!!!! Our van started with one small thing and now it seems like everything is falling apart! But then it is a Chrysler ha ha!! Though its only a 2005 so I’m not very happy about it…anyway, how do you get three columns on your page? I want to do that on mine but cant do it. Any suggestions??
