Random Thoughts

datePosted on 18:55, February 2nd, 2009 by Small Town Mommy

I have had a lot of random thoughts today, none of which would merit their own blog post.  Instead of trying to stretch one of the ideas into something long enough for a blog post, I thought I would share some of my random thoughts, kind of like Twitter on steroids.  Here is what I have been thinking about today:

Punxsutawney Phil:  Media crews from all over the country, travel to the middle of nowhere to watch a rodent predict the weather.  Does that seem peculiar to anyone else?

Connecticut’s Governor: Jodi Rell, the governor of Connecticut just had a television address, talking about how bad the state finances are.  I swear she was wearing a Snuggie.  I am hoping she was wearing the Snuggie because the huge budget cuts she keeps threatening are in the heating bills for the capitol building.   So far, all I have seen is her cutting all substance out of her speech (there go 15 minutes of my life that I will never get back).

Speaking of Snuggie, the Small Town ladies keep insisting we need one (two actually so they could each have one).  The heard me say I wanted one once and decided it was the hottest thing around.  I don’t know much about them, but heat is expensive.

Facebook: There is a meme traveling around Facebook where you are supposed to list 25 things about yourself.  I have been working on mine, but have done so many blogging memes that there is nothing left to say about me that is interesting.  I am still going to post it here once I have finished it.

Corporate Finances: I really wonder about the people running corporations (if you are one of them, what the heck are you doing).  It may just be that I always worked with cheap frugal organizations but I know I could do a better job of cutting expenses without cutting jobs.

Roommates: I am travelling for a meeting at the end of February and they are making me share a room with someone.  I don’t think I have shared a room with anyone but my husband since my sophmore year of college. There is a reason for that.  Can anyone think of a way to get out of it?  I am way to old to share a room with a stranger.

Heath: I have a cold so now I sound like Elmer Fudd.  Not the sexiest sound (neither is the snorting, sneezing and wheezing and nose blowing that goes along with it).

Can’t wait for the 25 interesting-things-about-you post! I don’t like sharing rooms with someone else, either, though I’ve had too–maybe you could take up smoking? Sex change? Good luck with that one… Did the rodent see his shadow?

Hope you are feeling better soon… :)

I can’t even do the 25 things on Facebook. Like you, I have had to come up with so many random things about me I just can’t come up with anymore. Hope you feel better soon.

Tell them in advance that you have severe allergies and asthma.
Tell them you absolutely cannot share a room with anyone who uses perfume, any scented toiletries or hairspray of any kind without risking a trip to the emergency room. That should get you a super clean room of your own!

I like these kinds of posts. It gives us a little peek into what you are thinking. Oh, and big corporations suck, big time. Never again. Biggest bunch of no-talent idiots I ever met. And they went bankrupt. Go figure.

As someone who owns a Snuggie, let me tell you that if you do buy one (they have them at Bed Bath and Beyond) you’re going to have to wash it 450 times to get rid of the plastic-y smell. And sage green is the only way to go. Otherwise, it’s pretty damn warm. And I know exactly what you mean about the Facebook meme. I can’t bring myself to do it.

    Fun post.

The last time I shared a room with someone was on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 1987. I was in Bakersfield, stopped at a Motel 6. I was next in line for the last room. They would not let me have it because it was a double. So the lady behind stayed in the room with me. I vowed then: never again. (She could have been Theodora Bundy for all I knew.) I say pay for your own room. Or feign sick to get out of going at all.

Nicole, I appreciate it but I am not that interesting.
Lydia, I think I may have to come up with some really boring things.
Allison, my problem is that they will make me hand out my own money to have my own room. I am still debating whether it is worth it.
Matt, I am shocked by the poor decisions.
Frogmama, uh oh, not a fan of plastic and I can’t wash anything 450 times. I have a septic tank and too much laundry does something to my scum level.
Patois, I like the feigning sick idea. I am starting to think these people don’t pay me enough for the amount of time I spend on their stuff.

I would just go to them and tell them that after we turn 18 we DON’T SHARE A ROOM ANY MORE unless it’s with family and they are IDIOTS for suggesting it. It’s just a plain dumb idea, someone will agree with you and change it. I have faith….okay, a little.

Oh my gosh Anne, hy heart goes out to you! I hate hate hate when we have to share rooms. And because of these corporate cut backs it is happening more and more often. You can get out of it if you tell them not to worry the doctor said the rash is not too contagious there is only a 80% chance of those around you getting it if you are not clothed!! :o ) LoL

I have the SAME problem with that 25 things Facebook meme! LOL!

Do you know who you are to share a room with? If not, I would ask, then speak to that person and suggest that each of you chip in for 1/2 the room rate and reimburse the company for the extra room. I’m sure the other person isn’t thrilled at the prospect of sharing a room either. And be sure to tell them that you snore violently and sleep walk and you wouldn’t want to risk any embarrassing situation that might ensue.

Thankfully I haven’t been tagged by the 25 meme… AND DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! My life is wayyyy too boring, I about go into convulsions from wracking my brain trying to do the 8 memes. I’m SERIOUS!

Anne: I agree with the above comments. No sharing rooms. I always got my own room even if it meant my paying the extra $ to do so. You cannot relax with a stranger in your room no matter how nice they seem.

  13. Duni on February 3rd, 2009 at 4:23 am

    Anna,
sharing a room with a stranger is my worst nightmare. Tell them you have a cold…
(but I do hope you feel better soon)
Does the prediction of that groundhog apply to the States only?

I am intrigued by the snuggie. We don’t have them over here, but I was online and saw a video on CNN about them. They look really comfy.

I hope you feel better soon.

    Too funny!

I have an award for you at my blog!

Who would have thought that this thing would have become a viral hit? I have to admit that I always smile when I see the ad. Remember all of the Billy Mays commercials? On my site (linked here) I made a small list with links to his stuff. Now those are funny!

I need one of those Snuggie thingamajigs too! I stay cold.

I see you were in the same bloggy boat as me today! Thanks for commenting!
Have you seen the Time magazine article about the Cult of The Snuggie? Pretty funny…http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1870762,00.html

I know how you feel about the roommate thing. If “they” are sending you on this trip, are they paying for it? If so, you can usually get out of sharing a room by just paying for your own room. If you can’t get out of it, just remember how temporary this arrangement is. It’ll be over soon.

Princess Nagger keeps nagging me to get 3 Snuggies…one for her, one for me, and one for Dada…LOL!!

Sharing a room with a stranger sucks…I like the idea someone posted about contacting the person you’re supposed to share with and see if she will chip in to split the cost of an extra room so you can each have your own room. You can also talk to the person who is booking the rooms to find out if there are any alternatives… when I traveled for business, if they had me slated to share a room with someone, if I spoke up to let them know I preferred my own room, they usually changed it…but then again, the economy wasn’t in the tank like it is now… :)

  21. Gibby on February 3rd, 2009 at 11:43 pm

OK, the governor wearing the Snuggie comment was hysterical! Maybe we should make all the politicians who don’t pay their taxes wear the red Snuggie!

  22. Cindi on February 8th, 2009 at 11:36 pm

Couple of things ~ as you know, I’m from CT too, and you’re rights, wasn’t that getup the most awful looking tie-die like thing you’ve ever seen?

As for as the Snuggie goes, I’m running a contest right now through 2/14, where you can win a Slanket, so you might want to stop by!

You might want to consider using your Assertive voice, and put those assertiveness training classes to good use. I agree, sharing a room is sooo not PC. Simply refuse to do it! Last time I shared a room with a “stranger” was as a chaperone on DD26 8th grade field trip to Quebec City, with another mom. Really uncomfortable. She had nicer PJs than I did.
