Broken Down in the Small Town

Yesterday was one of those days.  It felt like the fates were aligned against me.  I was supposed to be running from meeting to meeting all day and never left the house (I was wearing makeup and everything).

I got the kids off to school and put on my suit for an early morning meeting.  Went out to the car and it wouldn’t start.  My first thought was to call Small Town Daddy.  My second thought was more productive.  I called AAA (not AA, AAA).

After 45 minutes a lovely young man got there and started examining my car.  Turned out I needed a new battery.  He jumpstarted the car but didn’t have a replacement battery.  He basically told me that once I got to my destination I had to call AAA again to get a replacement battery.

In my wisdom, I decided to stay where I was rather than having my car break down again in a parking lot (what, it was snowing).  I called AAA again (having missed 2 meetings) and waited.  Then I waited some more.  Two hours later, the new AAA guy showed up (not as charming as the original AAA guy).

Fortunately, he brought the right battery with him and finished within an hour (third meeting missed).  He left just in time for me to meet the bus for the early snow dismissal from school.   Everything for the rest of the day was canceled because of the weather.

There is nothing worse than getting all dolled up for a meeting and getting stuck at home.  My makeup was wasted on the AAA guys and the cats (the cats really don’t care and I’m pretty sure the AAA guys didn’t either).  Have you ever had a day that was completely highjacked?

LOL yes I have had one of those days. I have locked my keys in my car, several times, when I had to be somewhere. After that I bought a convertible so I could easily break in. I also have gotten a flat tire, but being too stubborn to call for help, was going to fix it myself. I mean really how hard can it be. I got it all jacked up but couldn’t get the lug nuts off. Some nice young man stopped to stare at me, and finally told me I had it upside down. Had what upside down, I demanded! The jack. The jack was upside down. I told him he was wrong. Since I had never changed a tire in my life I was sure I was right. Who puts a jack under a car upside down? Apparently me! LOL, at least I can laugh about it, and he did change the tire for me.

I’ve had plenty of days like those. I think that’s why I totally gave up on using make up

oh sorry about that, i would probably feel so disappointed too, but at least, your car did not break down when you are in the middle of the road or somewhere else more stressful

Bummer. I hate when you have to reschedule everything because the car broke or a kid got sick. :(

I wear make-up every single day. Seriously. I like wearing make-up and I feel awful when I don’t put it on. Even when I was a SAHM, I woke up before the kids, got dressed and put on make-up. My theory is that you never know when you are gonna have to pop into that school to see a teacher or the principal. It’s good to be ready I think.
