10 Common Kid Phrases and What They Mean
Posted on 14:18, November 6th, 2008 by Small Town MommyKids Say the Darndest Things was a TV show in the late 90′s. It was on before Libby was born, so I was too cool to watch it (what is it about having children that sucks the cool right out of you).
Although I never saw the show, I recently read a blog post on Stay at Home Mom Sue that really struck a chord. She created a list of phrases that her kids say every day. My kids say many of the same things. While I was reading her list, I realized, that my kids often say things, but mean something else entirely. I have created this easy translation guide to 10 phrases my kids often use and what they actually mean.
1) I’m bored: You are not paying attention to me and I want you to entertain me.
2) She hit me: I am mad at my sister and want to get her in trouble.
3) I need help with my homework: I don’t feel like doing my homework and want you to do it for me.
4) I can’t do it: I don’t want to do it.
5) Are we there yet: I am tired of being stuck in this car and will claim my sister hit me if I don’t get out of here soon (this only works if above mentioned sister is awake and not reading).
6) You are my favorite mommy: I want something.
7) You are the best mommy ever: Thank you for giving me what I want.

9) I’m scared: I want to sleep in your room so I don’t miss anything.
And, my all time favorite:
10) I love you: I love you!

We were traveling by car from northern Florida to Miami to my mother’s. My two year old finally asked:
“When are we going to get to your Ami?”
This is too funny, honey!
Very perceptive. I hear all of those on a regular basis, that homework one especially.
I thought “I’m bored” meant “Give me more chores!”
That’s what it means around here, and you can imagine that I don’t hear it very often

This is true. I used to be a nanny for 5 years and I have learned to decipher what these “talk” really mean. Have a blessed weekend.
They still use some of these when they are older. Tonight my 16 yr. old son was walking with me in the store and telling me how he’s going to get a lot of chores done this weekend and how I’ve been a really good mom. I think somethings up! I’m curious to find out what. lol
