Why Can’t I Sleep?

datePosted on 09:07, August 30th, 2010 by Small Town Mommy

So last night I watched the Emmys.  I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal to you, but I don’t watch awards shows (I will occasionally watch the Tonys but only because I like show tunes).  So why would I bother watching the Emmys?  I got completely sucked in by the opening.  I know, right?!?  If you didn’t see it, it featured Jimmy Fallon leading a bunch of kids from Glee singing Born to Run (I am an 80s girl and I do love Bruce).  The rest of the awards ceremony was lame, but I watched to the very end, hoping that something exciting would happen (it didn’t).

What that really means is that I was up much later than normally.  Since I live on the East Coast, the awards show didn’t end until 11 pm.  I finally fell asleep a little later.

I was sleeping soundly when suddenly, I felt something bizarre.  It felt like the girls were jumping on the bed while I was still in it.  Why would they be jumping on the bed when they should be sleeping.  Does this mean I haven’t inspired the appropriate amount of fear in my children?  No worries, my kids are plenty scared of me.  It was the cats.  That’s right, the most evil animals in the empire.

While I was trying to sleep, the cats were fighting over me.  Not fighting over me in a who do I love more sort of way but physically fighting over me.  A cat sat on either side of my body and they met in the middle to swat at each other.  Believe it or not, I was too tired to chase them (and they did deserve to be chased).

So do you agree that my cats are the most evil animals in the empire or am I being too hard on them.  Or am I not being hard enough?  Should I turn them into cat chops?  Let me know what you think.  Do you know of a more evil animal?

Hard to say, I hate cats. Cats are the root of all evil…as your post clearly proves. 🙂

Andrea, you would love my cats :). Except when they wake me up at night.
SmallTownDaddy, we need another cat. I bet if we had another cat, he would keep the 2 we have under control.

Got to go with Andrea on this on…Cate are the root of all evil. I’ve met very few cats that I like. I can tolerate them but love? That’s stretching it. They are inconsiderate and selfish (hmmm…maybe my ex is a cat?). At least I can tell my dogs to kennel when they get on my nerves and they march right to that blanket and lay down AND stay! Dogs anytime.

I think you need a kitten to keep the other two in line!

I don’t think your cats are any more evil than Duke who frequently feels the need to warn me in the middle of the night that perhaps a leaf might be blowing across the lawn. I swear he stays up all night and can hear and see every tiny movement outside.

At least they don’t butt you….

I loved that opening, too. Actually, I think Fallon did a helluva job with the whole show. I like the Tony Award Show best, too, though.

Can’t agree with the cats thing. I love the snuggling and being purrrrrred to sleep.

Welcome to my world. I don’t sleep. EVER. I have to take hard core tranquilizers to pass out and alternate them every three weeks because they wear off and I’m a tried and true insomniac.

The most “evil” animals for me are the ones which cause sicknesses—-rats, cockroaches (if they are considered animals).
I don’t like cats but I love dogs….they’re more lovable.

They would have been outside cats after that if it was me.

And that is why I don’t have cats anymore! Evil!

For some strange reason our cat, who is just about 8 months old, has targeted my daughter Gabriella as the enemy. She lies in wait and when Gabbi walks nearby she pounces her hardcore. She flies through the air and starts nibbling on her leg, arm, whatever. I am not sure what the deal is. Gabbi is 2 but I’ll be honest, when the cat does this I do think she has some evil in her.

I think Jimmy Fallen did a pretty good job hosting the Emmy’s. And yes, your cats might be evil!

They are evil! My ex girlfriend’s cat used to piss on my backpack. I knew we were doomed.

The cat attacked her daughter later on.

Yes I am sure my two dogs are more evil. Matter of fact we have to put up gates at night to keep them in separate rooms or we would never get sleep.

What in the world were your cats fighting about in the middle of the night? That image made me laugh out loud, although I know what you mean about not being able to sleep – it is 12:41 am for me right now which means (with a 28 month old) I’m going to pay for this tomorrow 🙁 But I wanted to say thanks for your comment on my toddler bed post — my husband put it together the other night so I will be interested to see if Logan’s like either of your girls once he starts sleeping on it!

I’m actually allergic to cats. They make my face and eyes itchy. I don’t have anything against them specifically, but I consider myself more of a dog person. Although if the dogs were wrestling over me in the middle of the night, I might have to strangle them with my bare hands.
