Hershey’s Is Afraid of Me

datePosted on 08:36, August 17th, 2010 by Small Town Mommy

Many attendees came to BlogHer to wallow in the free stuff. I came to get the answer to a life-changing question.  Not how to grow my readership.  Not how to write better, but what the hell happened to Take 5 candy bars.

For background, I have written about my love for Take 5 bars in the past.  For my birthday, Small Town Daddy bought me a case of them.  So I wanted to know why I can’t buy them anywhere near the Small Town (I have relatives that taunt me with the easy availability they enjoy).

Before BlogHer started I asked on Twitter if Hershey’s was attending.  The crickets were deafening.  No one responded (way to monitor your Twitter feed, Hershey).  But, upon arrival, I discovered that Hershey’s was there.  So I headed up to the Hershey’s suite.  Up 42 flights of stairs (okay, I took the elevator, but you get the idea).  I was a woman on a mission.

They had the suite all set up for S’mores.  Okay, S’mores are fine but they are no Take 5 bar.  So I asked the PR agency girl if she knew why I couldn’t get Take 5s anywhere.  She humored me (kind of like you treat that crazy relative who gets out of the hospital to celebrate Thanksgiving).  I said I wanted to speak with someone from Hershey’s.  There was no one from Hershey’s in the suite (or she was hiding in a closet) so I left my phone number.  Nothing.  I am still waiting for the phone to ring.

So Hershey’s is dodging the tough questions.  They are willing to talk about S’mores all you want but ask them a difficult question and they run and hide.  And I am still sitting here in the Small Town without a source for Take 5 bars.

Do you have a favorite candy bar that obsesses you (or is that just me)?  Has someone discontinued something you loved and then refused to explain why?  Share your stories.

I’ve had this happen with perfume. My sister always brought a perfume from Marks & Spencers with her when she visited from Scotland. This is my FAVORITE perfume EVER. I happily received my 3 bottles every year for 10 years, from her until suddenly that stopped making it. For 5 long years. I wrote emails to them and even called someone in London. I like to think that maybe I was a little responsible for them bringing this perfume back last year. Now I order a couple bottles every few months just so I have extra even though the shipping from London to US is crazy.

I think its time to move. I love these candy bars as well and they are readily available down here.

I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a Take 5 bar, but then I’m a milky way lover myself.

I feel the same way about blueberries. There are so many products that have disappeared and it drives me crazy!!

I’m a reeses kind of girl so I don’t think I should ever have any problem finding my favorite.
My husband has a favorite type of Levis that he prefers and they stopped making them. He’s tried to contact them but never gotten any response. So what’s up with customer service these days

I am very into Dutch mints (like mint-chocolate M&Ms or the York mints in the little blue and silver tin, those are good too) but they are sort of hard to find (esp. in Canada, I know I could order them on line but honestly that is not such a good idea because I do not need to have chocolate sitting around calling out to me, etc etc). I do get them once a year when we make our annual trip to NYC, and that works out pretty well.

I always loved WhatchamacallIt’s I think you can still buy them though I haven’t had one in years. Now I’m going to have to start searching for Take 5 bars because you need them. Need, not want. I find; I ship!

I think it is just you LOL! Seriously though if you really want a response making a blog post is a start. Trust me these people have other people who search the net looking for anything negative written about their company. Put this post on Twitter and Facebook too you might be surprised how fast they respond. As for why they are not available where you are it is probably because there is no demand for them, other than from you of course.

Haagen-Dazs used to have this flavor of ice-cream, chocolate chocolate mint, that I LOVED. I’ve never been able to find it again. It killed my spirit a little. I totally get this, except that I’ve never even tried a Take 5 bar. If I find some, they’re yours.

I just wrote about this situation today! I loved Kellogg’s Yogurt Bites but they’ve been discontinued. Why, I have no idea. They were delicious but apparently the rest of society did not agree with me.

Their replacement choice is not good, trust me. So I have now turned to General Mills. They better not disappoint me.

I feel your pain. I’m obsessed with tiny chewy sweet-tarts and have a hard time finding them here. In Florida I bought at least 10 bags at Publix. I have 3 left, just sayin’.

I think Hershey owes you a phone call at least.

They stopped making them? OMG! I just started to cry. :'( I loved Take 5. Such a delicious combo of evil goodness. I live about 75 miles from Hershey. Want me to drive there and rough them up for answers? 😀

Worse, I have discontinued my ability to eat said candy bars by going gluten/dairy free. I went to the movies Tues night and sat between two of my friends who were munching away on M&M’s and I almost beat them down and took them.

I just saw a whole display of them at the cash register when I was at Walgreen’s. I discovered them a couple of years ago during Halloween. I love them. I feel bad for you that you can’t get them. Say the word and I will ship some to you.

I laughed through this post. I seriously hope that you get your answer!!!

I had to look up what a Take 5 bar was as I have never had one. And now I cant believe that I have never tried it cuz it has peanut butter and PB is my reason for living.

Take 5 is still on their website…are you sure it has been discontinued…or just at your store?

I am still mad over TWIX changing the PB Twix to chocolate cookie layer instead of the reg vanilla or whatever it was. It is totally different. They ruined it as far as I am concerned.

And I still miss the Wonka Scrunch Bar which was a peanut butter one also.
