Bathing Suit Shopping, What the Hell!?!Hey, look at that, it’s Wednesday. That means it is time for What the Hell Wednesday. Started by the sisters at Blue Monkey Butt, What the Hell Wednesday gives me the opportunity to share some of what’s on my mind (I say some because if I shared everything, it might scare you). I mentioned a few months ago that I was bathing suit shopping. I still haven’t gotten one. The other day, we went to Target and I decided that I would look at the bathing suits. This was a conscious decision and we even had a family discussion about it before we left. So we arrived and Libby started looking at the bathing suits. What the Hell!?! Since she is 11, she doesn’t really fit into women’s bathing suits but try telling her that (go ahead, try. She wont listen). I finally convinced her to look at bathing suits in her size. So she and Joanna both picked out a group of bathing suits to try on. Meanwhile, Small Town Daddy loitered outside of the dressing room like a pervert. An hour later, both girls were able to find bathing suits but I didn’t even have time to try anything. So I am still bathing suit-less. I wonder if people would frown if I tried swimming nekkid (remember, simple math: middle aged woman+2 kids=sagging down to here). Maybe I will go bathing suit shopping tonight. Because nothing ruins a day like bathing suit shopping. What the Hell!?! I have been having a bad day anyway, I might as well cap it off with a trip to go bathing suit shopping. So let me know, do you like bathing suit shopping? Okay, no one likes bathing suit shopping so do you have a bathing suit? Where did you get it? Was it painful to try and find it? Inquiring minds want to know. |
The only way I bathing suit shop is on-line through a catalog. I find a few I like-get them in two sizes and return either one, both or all! Seriously!
you remind me
I know I need to change my bathing suits, they were 3 to 4 year olds, but maybe I did not feel the rush to change them since I can hide their worn-out look with my board shorts and/or rash/wet suits. But then, I know they are old
Lucky for us we don’t do much swimming. And if we do I usually just let my son swim while I watch because I have no desire to put myself through that. Good luck with finding a suit!
My bathing suit is 2, maybe 3 years old. I cannot subject myself to that kind of trauma annually.
It seems like it is a complicated life being a middle aged woman somtimes..! Its not so tough being a guy, buying swimming shorts is a breeze…
I loathe bathing suit shopping. And those lights in the dressingroom? OMG, could they make me look any worse? I think not. I have been rocking the same suit for three years now. I just cant handle the stress of finding a new one!
Bathing suit shopping and I do not get along. Mine is probably 3 years old and I got it online.
I almost exclusively shop onlne for bathing suits. I only use sites that allow free returns. I purchase a whole bunch of them, and try them on in the privacy of my own home where I can weep openly and open a bottle of wine to soothe the pain.
Lands End has THE BEST swimming suits for anyone over the age of 30. They fit really well and look really good.
I absolutely hate bathing suit shopping, which is why my last bathing suit I had since 1996! This year I got a new one, and I’m not super happy with it, or I guess it would be I’m not super happy with my body in it, it’s better than being nekkid.
Thanks for joining us today!
Bathing suits. Grrr. I’ve made a couple of attempts, but it’s been painful thus far. One of my old reliable tanks recently snapped, my back up suit is losing elasticity, and the new one was a donation from a friend who bought it and didn’t fit in to it right. I think I wouldn’t mind the fitting rooms so much if they offered better lighting…and alcohol.
Bathing suit shopping means I go back to Weight Watchers for six months…then by the time I’ve lost the weight? It’s Christmas and I don’t need the suit.
Ugh bathing suit shopping is such a horrible experience. I actually did force myself to buy a new one recently. I got it on sale at Target. Since I had lost some weight, it wasn’t as horrible as it normally is, but still degrading nonetheless. Good luck!
ironically I feel the best place is Victoria’s Secret online. Yeah you think sexy and revealing when you hear it but they do have the most AWESOME flattering full suits too and on top of that it makes you feel better about your body/shape. I had dreaded getting a suit. I am a small person but my body isn’t as firm as it once was! I have 4 daughters after all. So I wanted some things covered, others not. I found just what I wanted and for the first time and am actually happy to go swimming. I recommend it. Look through their suits. You might be surprised.
LOL you live in CT, and it is already mid July, soon it will be too cold to care. Do I love bathing suit shopping? Absolutely not! God for some reason thought it would be humorous to put extra large breasts on a very small frame, and it is unpleasurable enough to be gawked at with a turtle neck on let alone a bathing suit. Ugh! The one I wear in public is a Speedo brand, very pricey but has decent support. The one I wear at home is a two piece tankini with very little support, but no one sees me but my family and I don’t honestly care what they think. LOL!
took me hours, days and weeks to find a swimsuit. Like you I took friends and children who were all more fit than I so my suits always looked even worse… Found one at Old Navy. Wrote about it on my blog, I’ve worn the thing but not happily
Good luck!
Shorts and a t-shirt work well, in fact if you call them “boy shorts” and a “rash guard” you can try to make people think you’re a surfer.
HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT! There is nothing worse than shopping for a swim suit.
I haven’t gone in years. You know how hard it it to find a bathing suit for a goat?!
It’s pretty basic for me, but my wife absolutely hates it. She gets her suits online. Some specialty store or something. All I know is they cost a bundle, but they do look good.
Good luck!
Oh Oh Oh! Do you have a Sears near you??? I looked EVERYWHERE for a suit this year… half of the stores don’t even CARRY them! I was floored! But at Sears they had Land’s End bathing suits for HALF OFF. So I got a hundred dollar bathing suit for 50 bucks… one that is Land’s end and will probably last forever. When I buy cheaper they never last past a season, but I’ve heard great things about these. I am SO there with you on this!

I have several bathing suits that were purchased when I was about 10 pounds lighter. I didn’t mind shopping for them then, now I’ll either squeeze into what I have or I’ll wear something else. Usually it’s the something else.
Swimming? Bathing Suits? What is this nonsense you speak of?? (I think I would go to the dentist before subjecting myself to bathing suit shopping, btw.)
You’re all going to hate me but I can’t find one small enough. They’re all mix and match and I have no butt so I’d find a cute bottom that fits but can’t find a top. I ended up buying 6 different things to mix & match (swim skirt, tiny bottoms and whatnot) but I never found the bikini I was hoping for.
My swimsuit is from 4 yrs ago because I’ve hardly worn it, so even though it doesn’t fit the best now (since I had a baby in the meantime) I just couldn’t bring myself to buy a new one this summer. My plan (for whenever I go swimming since I still haven’t yet this year) is to wear a cover-up until the moment my feet hit the water, take off the cover up, and then have a towel ready before I’m even out of the water. :p
