Summer Time and Stomach Upset

datePosted on 10:53, July 6th, 2010 by Small Town Mommy

I hope all my readers in the US had a happy 4th of July.  Unfortunately, Hamlet did not have a happy 4th.  Hamlet does not like fireworks.  He finds them a personal threat.

We have neighbors who set off fireworks and Hamlet was most displeased about it.  While the 4th was bad, the worst was last night.  Small Town Daddy took Joanna, my 7 year old, outside on the deck to look at the fireworks up the street.  While Hamlet was terrified, he felt it was his job to protect them.  He kept trying to herd them back inside (he is part corgi, he likes to herd).  Small Town Daddy and Joanna refused to listen.  I can imagine how frustrating it was for him.  Especially since it was for their own good.  I sometimes have the same reaction to them.

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible pain in my stomach.  I must have eaten something that didn’t agree with me and my stomach was really objecting.  And it was making itself felt, wholeheartedly.  I still feel a little queasy and I am afraid to eat anything.  At least I should lose a couple of pounds this way (let’s look at the bright side, nothing like the food poisoning diet).

Everyone has gone to camp today, let the happy dancing begin.  The good news is that I don’t have time to dance.  I have 2 new business pitches (yay) that I have to put together.  That is the nice kind of busy.  Yelling at children to get them to stop fighting is not the nice kind of busy.  But I do that a lot too.

So how is your summer going?  Did you have a good 4th of July?  Did you watch fireworks?  Did you eat a lot of good food?  Did that lead to stomach upset?  Share with me!

Poor Hamlet! One of our dogs hates fireworks too. But he doesn’t try to protect us. He just paces, drools and pants.

We had a very nice relaxing 4th. We hung out in the pool and then saw Toy Story 3. We saw some fireworks from out backyard so we were able to avoid all the traffic afterwards.

No stomachaches for me, although losing a few pounds would be good. Feel better and enjoy that precious time to yourself, even if you’re working!

Aw poor Hamlet. And poor you too with the stomach ache. Hope you’re feeling better so you can fully enjoy your happy dance.
Our 4th was spent just hanging out at home and eating the typical picnic type food. yummy

You read about my dogs love of fireworks. It was of course DJ’s birthday, and it poured cats and dogs for like an hour. Our front yard was a lake and I will share the pictures soon. We did find fireworks being put on by people who knew what they were doing, no thanks to the town clerk. All in all it was a good day.

I am sorry you are not feeling well.
    I hope you are better.
    Nausea sucks.

We goats hate fireworks too. We think we are being hunted and we run to the barn.

Yeah for new business opportunities! I caught some miserable stomach bug on Saturday. Totally feeling for you!

I ate my weight in burgers this holiday weekend! I hope you feel better soon. Food poisoning (while great for immediate weight loss) sucks big time.

Poor Hamlet, my dog does the same thing except he just hides in the shower and shakes until about an hour after the fireworks have stopped. He will be a wreck for another week since most kids around here have been lighting them off for at least a week.

Yay, the kids are at camp! I’m doing a happy dance for you since my kids are not going to camp this year, I will certainly live vicariously through you.

We had a a great 4th. It is my hubs birthday, so we had a party. We swam, ate and had a great time. I too was sick at the end of the night. I had way to much heat and sun. I am on the heat exhaustion diet this week.

it must be a dog thing in general, our jack russell hates fireworks too (and storms, and race nights as there’s a race track five miles from us). We wish he hated swimming instead – as he won’t stay out of the pool.

I wish my kids would go to camp – but they refuse, and I end up with extra kids here instead (because of the pool)…

Elle, your 4th sounds very nice. Watching from home is much better than going out for fireworks. They seem to have trouble with traffic flow.
Ann, it sounds wonderful. I hope Duke had a good day too!
Melissa, I am glad DJ had a good birthday.
Pricilla, I hope you don’t have to face fireworks anytime soon.
    Stephanie, we can sulk together.
Courtney, thank you. I am hoping to feel better soon.
Jen, Hamlet hates water so he avoids the shower like the plague. Someone might turn it on when he was in there.
Lydia, happy belated birthday to your husband!
Leigh, Hamlet hates swimming too so he doesn’t go near pools. My older daughter refuses camp but since I have to work, she has to go.

Lily dog hates the fireworks display also. I feel so bad for them because they don’t understand it is supposed to be enjoyable.
Hope you had a happy 4th!

Poor Hamlet- our dogs hate the fireworks too- and you know, you just know when your neighbors are the ones blaring country music, flying the rebel flag, drink beer and scream obscenities at 3 am they are the type to shoot off fireworks for 2 weeks at all hours. Fun times- NOT!

Sorry that Hamlet had a bad Fourth, and you suffered tummy troubles. We celebrated with friends, lots of fun, heat, and too much food. Didn’t see any fireworks. 🙁

I feel so bad for the animals on the 4th and the days surrounding it. We always put the air conditioner on in the house to sort of mask the sounds because the kitties just get so scared.

Sorry to hear you were feeling cruddy. We had a nice relaxing holiday for a change.

Happy 4th and camp time for you! And great that you have work to keep you busy from insanely missing the constant arguing, right? 🙂

We had a nice low key 4th and were fortunate that neither the little one or the puppy freaked out. The pup was very cuddly, but she didn’t freak out too bad. And the baby slept through the whole darn thing!

Your dog and my dog should get together! Cosmo makes me rock him like a baby whenever there are fireworks!

I hope you are feeling better now and will enjoy the time while your girls are at camp!
