The Family Stays Home, but Not Me

randomtuesday

Hello and happy Tuesday.  This is the last Tuesday before Valentine’s Day (also known as my birthday).  Make sure you shop early to avoid the rush.  All presents will be welcome.  Tuesday also means it is time for Random Tuesday Thoughts.  Where I share some of the scary random things that are running through my head.

On Saturday, I left the whole family at home to travel to the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) to attend the finals of the Bocuse D’Or.  It was the best time ever.  For those of you who live under a rock have never heard of the CIA, it is one of the country’s leading culinary schools.  The Bocuse D’Or is like the Olympics of food.

It was so much fun.  While I am usually not interested in celebrities, celebrity chefs are different.  Daniel Boulud and Thomas Keller were there.  I wanted to get my picture taken with them but I was too embarrassed.  It was still fabulous!  Someday, if I am ever rich, I am going to leave my family and attend the CIA.

Since I was gone for most of Saturday, the laundry has taken over my house (no, I don’t get the connection either, all I know is that there is no longer room for me with all the laundry). I keep waiting for the laundry fairy to show up but he keeps missing my house (I assume it is a man and that he will look like Dwayne Johnson).

Yesterday, I got an email from a PR person.  It was from the agency for a major corporation.  The PR person in question called me the wrong name.  Let me give PR people a hint, if you are sending someone an email, address them by the correct name.  Using no name is more effective than using the wrong name.  It isn’t like my email address doesn’t have my first name in the address.  Needless to say, I didn’t read the rest of his email.  He did offer me free body wash, but that doesn’t negate the fact that he called me the wrong name.  Hey look, I did write about him so I guess he wins anyway.

I have a package of ground turkey and am trying to figure out what to do with it.  After I purchased it, I participated with the girls in a long discussion about how they hate meatloaf.  I am looking for another plan with my ground turkey.  Suggestions are welcome.

That’s pretty much all I have been thinking about lately.  Go check out Keely and see what has been crossing the minds of the rest of the Internet.  And don’t forget to leave me a suggestion for my ground turkey.

I got an email from someone who called me Jessica. She wasn’t giving me anything but wanted me to write about her stuff. Uh, no. The name thing wasn’t the problem, I want product or money if I’m writing what someone else thinks I should write about.

Ground turkey works great in meatloaf. I have a recipe on my blog for a great one, http://www.winetome.net/?p=10 Just substitute half the ground beef with the turkey. Ground turkey tends to be watery so reduce the broth a little. You know what to do. It’s an awesome meatloaf and really easy. The kids love it.

I would love to go to Bocuse D’or and be surrounded by food! Wow!

    No meatloaf lovers here either.

Oh and Happy Birthday on Sunday!

oooo … ground turkey cheesy tacos. The yummiest!!! My hubby loves them. I get the McCormick cheesy taco seasoning and the soft tacos that you cook yourself on the grill (they are in the refrigerated section of the store, not the regular Mission tortillas).

They are SOOOOOOOO yummy and one of our very favorite meals. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I hope the laundry fairy visit you today, that would be a good gift.
    How about turkey meatballs.

The dreaded meatloaf. No one likes it here either. I like to use ground turkey to make meat sauce for hot dogs, or meatballs for spaghetti and meatballs. I have even used it to make swedish meatballs, it is good actually. I work only one night a week outside of my home, and trust me laundry is not the only thing that gets neglected. One day, it is amazing.

Happy early Birthday. When your laundry fairy shows up, give him my number, especially if it’s “The Rock”.
I’m at a loss for the turkey, burgers? I have some frozen turkey patties that I’m waiting to grill. I think I can hide the fact that they’re turkey that way.

The laundry fairy needs to visit my house too.

I purchase ground turkey all the time. It is great for tacos. I also add it to home made mac and cheese. You can also cook it up and add it to your pasta. My kids love that. I make pasta add red sauce, ground turkey, shredded mozz. cheese and fresh diced tomatoes.

My favorite for ground turkey. Brown with garlic and olive oil. Add onions if you wish. Put in spice of your choice… could be herbs de provence, rosemary – whatever floats your boat. Pour in chicken broth. Add a package of cooked spinach (I like whole leaf) and then add a can of drained great northern beans. I also like a few hot pepper flakes for good measure. YUM! (OK OK.. I know.. healthy too. But you can win em all!)

Yeah that laundry fairy keeps missing my house too. My best suggestion for the ground turkey is turkey burgers.

Hey Mon Make some Jamaican Turkey Patties. like beef patties but with ground turkey instead. trust me they are a hit. I have them around lots, for as long as they last here. ooohhh about 4 hours. 1 lb of ground turkey will make 8 – 10 large patties. put some rice and peas and a salad or caribbean slaw with it, and you have instant jamaican dinner.

if you need inspiration, come by my caribbean cooking video widget. there are about 100 videos total now.

remember spice it up mon !

I’m jealous that you got to leave the whole family at home and had a good time. Laundry will do that to you. You can’t leave it unattended even for a moment.

No ideas for the ground turkey, not really one of my favs. Good luck!

I get people always getting my first and last name wrong all the time. I would have taken the free stuff anyway :o )

I just used some ground turkey in a Bisquick impossible pie. It takes one pound of ground meat (browned). Drain this and put this in a pie plate. I cooked some yellow pepper in with the meat and it really added some good flavor. Sprinkle one cup of cheese on top (I used Italian blend). Mix together 2 eggs, 1/2 C bisquick and one cup milk. Pour this over the meat mixture and bake this in a preheated oven at 350 for approx. 30-35 minutes. My picky husband loved this. All you need to complete the meal is a salad or another veggie.

What about Turkey Chili? Just use Turkey in place of Ground Beef. You can make it with beans or without and as spicy or mild as you like.

Turkey meatballs in a nice red primavera tomato sauce.
