Bite Me, Cablevision

datePosted on 07:42, January 3rd, 2010 by Small Town Mommy

Happy New Year!

I started out 2010 vowing to have a whole new attitude.  I planned to stop being bitter and angry.   I was going to be all sunshine and daisies.  My new attitude lasted all the way until about 5pm on New Years Day.  Then I signed onto Facebook.

There was a message from a friend of mine in the Small Town.  The message said that if you lived in the Small Town, you no longer get the Food Network or HGTV.  I thought maybe she was kidding (or hadn’t paid her cable bill).

They have taken away my Food Network.  I love my Food Network.  I no longer get Chef vs City.  I can’t watch Iron Chef America.  I will never get to see the Worst Cooks in America.

I blame my cable company, Cablevision.  I think they have canceled my Food Network because it is out to get me it doesn’t play nicely with others.

I looked at all the channels that Cablevision carries and I would be happy to provide a list of channels that can be canceled so Cablevision can afford my Food Network.  Does anyone really watch the Golf Channel?  How much golf can you watch?  Do we really need TruTV?  I like reality television more than most, but it’s not like it isn’t available on every other channel.  There is a glut of reality television programming.  We actually get something called the Navy Channel.  Really?  I can’t even tell you what’s on it because when you tune it in, there is a computer error message (and no one has even noticed except for me who checked it out for my blog post).

There is the Mattel Barbie Channel?  I really don’t need an entire channel dedicated to Barbie.  And Wedding Central?  I know everyone has their hand out when you are getting married but they certainly don’t need a channel dedicated to everything wedding.  Not to mention how many other sports channels there are out there.

So I am bitter and angry about my Food Network.  Why is it that the poor consumer must suffer.  Senator John Kerry wrote a letter when Time Warner and Fox wouldn’t get along, but no one cares about me and my Food Network (mental note, write a letter to my congressman).

Stacy from Blue Monkey Butt suggested we get satellite.  I want satellite.  I bet satellite wouldn’t take away my Food Network.  Unfortunately, the Small Town has many, many, many trees.  We can’t receive satellite.  So I am stuck with stinky Cablevision.  We have looked at every option we could think of and can’t find another (don’t tell me to give up TV, there is nothing else to do in the Small Town.

I am going to spend all of the time that I would have spent watching Food Network, writing letters to anyone who will listen, complaining about my lack of Food Network.

So, Cablevision, bite me!

Leave me a comment and let me know what television network you can’t live without.

That stinks, I love Food Network, though I hardly ever get to watch it anymore. You could always switch to Direct TV. I think if you just wait a bit, golf network, will go under, because Tiger is not golfing in the near future.

we gave up tv, but got netflix. We had a xbox 360 hooked up to the tv, so we were able to watch movies instantly. Right now, we have my old desktop hooked up to the tv, and we can watch movies/tv from both hulu.com and netflix. A lot cheaper, and netflix customer service is about a bazillion times better than any cable/dish service we’ve ever worked with.

Anyway, I know that the instant part of netflix works with several different game consoles. So if you have one, maybe check the list at netflix.com and see if it is on it?

    whew…that waslike a small novel….

My condolences on your loss. I’m sorry to hear they have taken the Food Network away from you.

And seriously, the Barbie channel? The Navy channel? They couldn’t get rid of something like that? Why the Food Network?

Ugh! How frustrating. Can you pick up any of those shows on your computer? I know Bravo lets you see full episodes of their shows, which helps a ton. I know it is not the same, but it might help with the transition.

Bummer. I actually could live without all of them but back when I was watching a lot of TV Hallmark and HGTV were two of my favorites

  6. Vixen on January 3rd, 2010 at 1:11 pm

No Food Network AND no HGTV?!?! I would surely die.

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. I know the feeling.

Happy New Year all the same!

That sucks. Food Network is a good one. I love Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I swear when the kids move out, me and the husband are getting an RV and roving the country to eat at every dive we can find.

I have a few networks that are up on my list, including Bravo (Top Chef) and IFC (Independent Film Channel). Some things I could do without – The Outdoor Channel, The NASA Channel – although I’m fairly certain my husband would disagree.

OMG! I would be so upset too. What morons.

    That’s disappointing….well, why don’t you try Comcast.
That’s another thing why I hate living in the suburbs—trees. Someday, I’ll get away with these too many trees and live in an urban metropolis.

Cable companies suck but what sucks worse is not having cable at all so you are damned it you do and damned if you don’t pay your bill!

I do hate the way you can’t seem to get the channels that you want (or they get moved to a more expensive tier) while there are all those channels that you do get that look like about 5 people might be watching them. Can you watch these channels streaming over the internet? We do that a lot now. I just plug my laptop into the TV and we get all kinds of shows that we can’t get on cable unless we pay the big bucks.

When we traveled around in the fifthwheel we used DirecTV. And trust me we stayed in a lot of places; trees, mountains you name it. The hubby always managed to get the dish to point through. The only thing that brought us down was heavy fog and pouring rain. Where we are now is pretty treed and very mountainous and we had Direct and just switched to Dish. I don’t have my Bravo any more (sniff, sniff) but I am do have Food TV.

    I feel your pain.

I can’t live without Discovery, Discovery Health and Bravo. I looovveee my housewives, lol!!

  16. Dori on January 4th, 2010 at 4:17 am

OMG! That would really tick me off too. I love Food Network.

  17. Leigh on January 4th, 2010 at 12:40 pm

That sucks. We watch the food network more than any other single channel.

  18. Elle on January 4th, 2010 at 2:35 pm

No Food Network??!!! That’s awful. Stupid jerky Cablevision! You might be able to get those shows on the Food Network website. I don’t know what channel I would miss the most. Maybe Disney channel because it keeps my kids busy watching Phineas & Ferb.

One day, the Comcast cable guy knocked on our door and said he had to adjust some things and asked for permission to go in our yard. Right in the middle of a program we lost HGTV and the History channel. We only pay for basic cable but that was so rude.
Up til then they couldn’t get rid of those two stations because we have Comcast internet and phone, too.
I do not like offers new customers get that we can’t because we are old. These are my complaints. How about a low price break once in awhile or all of the channels once in awhile?

I can’t believe they would take away Food Network of all things. It’s one of the most popular cable channels there is. I’ve never even heard of the Navy channel and I don’t believe you when you say there is a barbie channel. That is just not possible. Too many trees for satellite? Are you sure? Maybe the Food Network plays some shows on the internet. Or you might be able to find them on YouTube. This is just insane. Cable companies are like drug dealers. They get you hooked and then force you into withdrawal. Bastards! – oops sorry! I don’t make a habit of swearing on other people’s blogs, but this just incenses me!

  21. Harriet on January 4th, 2010 at 4:27 pm

    I HATE that!
My cable company took away Style and then gave me 2 annoying religious channels that are not of my religion.I don’t mind these channels being available, I just do not want them. Cable companies think they are the Gods of the earth sometimes.

  22. Stephanie@The Blue Zoo on January 4th, 2010 at 4:41 pm

A freakin’ Barbie channel?? Ugh. Poke your eyes out now, save your brain cells.

I couldnt live without the Food Network, or VH1!

  23. joy on January 4th, 2010 at 7:09 pm

that’s very sad to be without your favorite channel. here in the phils, we have lifestyle network and it carries food network shows and i enjoy watching it.

  24. Jen on January 4th, 2010 at 9:04 pm

I try not to watch the food channels (yes, I said channels) they suck way too much of my time. I can’t live without the History channel, especially because the world is coming to an end in a couple of years and they have everything you could possibly need to know about how it will happen. I don’t sleep anymore because of this.

We don’t have Barbie, if our cable offered it I’d have heard about it so I don’t even need to bother looking.

I could do without the 348 religious channels. I do get a kick out of the man channels with the show Manswers.

  25. Sprite's Keeper on January 4th, 2010 at 11:13 pm

Food Network definitely! I need my Alton Brown and Duff Goldman to keep my nights a little hungrier.

    Have you seen this page?

It sounds like a pretty big deal to a lot of people.

  27. Tammy on January 5th, 2010 at 10:08 am

I would be very upset! My TV is either on HGTV or the Food Network.

  28. Stephanie on January 6th, 2010 at 5:07 pm

I love HGTV and Food Network. I don’t know what I would waste all my time doing if I didn’t have them! :)

  29. Stacy (the Random Cool Chick) on January 7th, 2010 at 10:46 am

That’s just so wrong on so many levels – did they at least reduce your monthly bill after taking away an important channel? I’m SO glad we are able to have satellite here – if they did away with NickJr, the Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, Disney, etc., there would be some major issues in our house since Princess Nagger loves those.

They have a Mattel Barbie Channel? That’s insane!
